Stoning in Nigeria and Iran

A 14 year old in Iran and 2 women in Nigeria are to be stoned to death!

Condemn stoning

Last week 3 people were condemned to death by stoning in Iran and Nigeria. Zhila, a 14-year-old teenager who had sexual relation with her brother and gave birth to a child was sentenced to death by stoning in Iran. She lives in the city of Marivan.

In Nigeria, 2 women, Hajar Ebrahimi and Daso Adamo, have been sentenced to death by stoning in the northern region of the country for having sexual relations outside marriage.

The International Committee against Stoning strongly condemns stoning and protests especially against the execution of children in Iran. We have organised an international campaign to disclose such barbarity and crime against women and children and put an end to stoning. We urge you all to join us in our efforts to defend Human rights and save women’s and children’s lives.

Recommended actions:

• Write to the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami demanding:
- Immediate abolition of stoning and all other forms of punishment for extra-marital relations and all other Shari'ah laws;
- Immediate release of Zhila the 14-year-old girl and all those imprisoned for extra-marital relations;
