Commissioner Diamantopoulou meets representatives of the International Committee against Stoning

Commissioner Diamantopoulou received today a delegation of the International Committee against Stoning, which has been campaigning against the practice for more than four years. There are still four women awaiting their sentence of stoning in Iranian prisons, explained Mina Ahadi, head of the delegation. This practice has been used in a number of countries, notably Nigeria and Iran, and sentencing to death by stoning has increased over the last four months with an estimated 40 victims worldwide awaiting trial.
